To Obtain Military Service Records

Due to the passage of the 2003 military legislation,
qualified candidates must submit military documentation along with a completed
application form in order to purchase military service.
Several members are experiencing difficulty in obtaining their military
records and as an attempt to assist our veterans the following additional
information is provided:
According to the Louisiana National Guard Reserve Office,
all branches of the military are considered federal status.
The branches of the Armed Forces consist of:
Army,
Army Reserve, Navy, Navy Reserve, Marine Corps, Marine Corps Reserve, Air Force,
Air Force Reserve, National Guard, National Guard Reserve, Army National Guard,
Army National Guard Reserve, Air National Guard, Air National Guard Reserve and
Coast Guard.
The
National Guard is classified as dual status.
It is federal, but can be used to support the State as called upon by the
Governor. Members do not earn
retirement points when called by the Governor.
Retirement
points are earned from inactive or active duty and are calculated as follows:

Members
earn 1 retirement point per drill. Weekend
duty is comprised of 4 drills and members can earn up to 4 retirement
points. Statements of
retirement points can be obtained from their military branch.

Members earn 1
point per day and usually consists of 15 active days per year.
If active duty is more than 90 days, service is reported on DD 214.

If
service was in the Louisiana National Guard, members may obtain records of
separation by completing the attached SF 180 form and submitting to:

If
requesting military records from the Mississippi National Guard, completion of
AGO FORM 26-R is necessary.

titled “LOCATION OF MILITARY RECORDS”.
According
to information on various websites, the turn around time for military records
can be 14 to16 weeks. Submitting
electronic requests for military records could prove a faster response time.
